At Velociti Services, we understand that our success is measured by our people. That’s why safety isn’t just a priority, it’s a core value woven into the fabric of our company culture. We are dedicated to creating a work environment where everyone feels empowered to prioritize safety and go home healthy every day.

Building a Comprehensive Safety Program

Velociti’s Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) program is a continuously evolving document that reflects our commitment to staying ahead of potential risks. Our safety program is led by Barry Poston, a Senior safety professional with an advanced degree in safety management, Barry has decades of experience in leading innovative health, safety, environmental and quality initiatives in Fortune 50 companies.

This comprehensive program outlines the specific hazards our team members encounter, along with detailed policies, procedures, forms, and templates. This ensures clear communication, complies with industry regulations, and empowers leadership to proactively manage safety measures.

The foundation of our program rests on the Core 7, a set of essential safety principles designed to equip our team with the knowledge and tools to navigate potential hazards effectively. These core principles encompass:

Bloodborne Pathogens: We educate and train team members on identifying and mitigating risks associated with bloodborne pathogens.

Electrical Safety: Recognizing and avoiding electrical hazards is crucial. We equip our team to work safely around electrical equipment.

Hand and Power Tools: Proper usage and maintenance of hand and power tools are essential to prevent accidents.

Hazard and Risk Management: We train our team members to identify potential hazards and risks, then implement strategies to minimize them.

Hazard Communication: Understanding the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) of materials used allows team members to take necessary precautions.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): We provide and train our team on the proper selection, use, and maintenance of PPE based on the specific tasks they perform.

Incident Reporting and Management: A transparent and well-defined incident reporting system allows us to learn from past incidents and continuously improve our safety protocols.

Success Stories: A Culture of Safety in Action

Our commitment to safety goes beyond manuals and procedures. We actively foster a culture where safety is a shared responsibility and awareness is paramount. Here are two examples that showcase the positive impact of our safety initiatives:

  • Quick Response, Positive Outcome: When faced with an unexpected lead exposure situation, Velociti reacted swiftly. We developed and implemented a mitigation program that not only protected our team but also received praise from OSHA and the client. This exemplifies our dedication to swift and effective response to potential hazards.
  • Heroic Action Saves a Life: One of our bridge tenders witnessed a co-worker experiencing a sudden medical emergency. Thanks to immediate CPR response, a life was saved. This incredible act highlights the importance of safety training and the presence of mind our team members demonstrate in critical situations.

Industry-Leading Safety Performance

Velociti’s safety record speaks volumes about our commitment to team member wellbeing. When it comes to measuring safety, scores are like golf: the lower, the better. Our Total Recordable Case (TRC) rate, which measures the incidence of work-related injuries and illnesses, is currently at 2.21. This is significantly lower than the national average of 4.5 for our industry classification (NAICS code 5612 Facility Support Services) according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. This achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of our safety program and the dedication of our team members.

Looking Ahead: Continuous Improvement

At Velociti, we believe that building and maintaining a culture of safety is an ongoing journey. We are constantly seeking ways to improve our programs, educate our team, and continually foster a culture of safety in our workplace. By prioritizing the well-being of our team, we not only ensure a safe work environment but also empower them to deliver exceptional service to our clients.
